Essential tremor in the media!

Because ET has no celebrity spokesperson and rarely receives media coverage, people living with essential tremor often experience embarrassment and frustration in public venues and social situations. Lack of public awareness of the condition leads people to assume our tremors are caused by anxiety or nervousness, drug withdrawal, alcoholic DT’s, etc. It’s encouraging to see some mention of essential tremor beginning to creep into the media:

Focused ultrasound was featured at our June 7th meeting.

Our June 7th meeting was well attended by a wonderful group of people living with essential tremors from all over the state. An informed discussion of serious medical research was interspersed with heartwarming support and humor.

Movement disorders specialist Dr. Duarte Machado presented a detailed report on the pilot study of focused ultrasound thalamotomy for essential tremor from the 2014 American Academy of Neurology meeting. We also talked about other research projects that members are participating in or aware of.

Participation in the NBC Connecticut Health & Wellness Festival at the CT Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday, September 27th and 28th was discussed, as were speakers for future meetings, outreach to neurologists throughout Connecticut, increasing public awareness of essential tremors, and suggestions for the 2015 March is Essential Tremor Month activities.

If you missed our June meeting in Orange, we do hope you’ll join us on August 2nd in Essex!
